David R. Davidson Memorial Scholarship Fund

David R. Davidson Choral Conducting Scholarship Fund

David R. Davidson (1948-2009)
The Dallas Symphony Chorus enjoyed considerable and continued success during the 15-year tenure of David R. Davidson, who was named director of the DSC in 1994 by then Maestro Eduardo Mata. In spite of his untimely passing in September 2009, the strong legacy of David's leadership and encouragement remains with Chorus members, who continually strive to improve their skill and musical artistry. The ongoing goal of the Dallas Symphony Chorus is to raise the level of choral excellence during each and every performance—whether locally, nationally, or world-wide. The Chorus owes a great deal of its achievement to David and will always carry an appreciation and admiration of his enthusiasm for, and personal dedication to, artistic excellence. David's musical heritage will live on in the lives and performances of the thousands of musicians he touched not just in Dallas, but all over the world.

As a gift to David in 2006, the Chorus established in his name
"The David Davidson Choral Conducting Scholarship Fund" at his college alma mater, the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music.  Since David was at one time the recipient of a college scholarship himself, he was very pleased and excited about this fund and what it could accomplish. The primary purpose of the fund is to award scholarships every year in David's name to help dedicated young college students begin or further their career in choral conducting. The ultimate goal is to help instill in others the love of choral excellence consistently exhibited by David R. Davidson. Contributions are open to anyone, and certainly to all friends and colleagues who have ever been inspired by David through his fine art. We believe that this is a meaningful way to honor his memory as well as his many and distinguished accomplishments in the world of music.

In May 2009, this fund became self-sustaining when it reached the minimum $25,000 required by the University of Cincinnati Foundation which manages the fund. However, the minimum amount enables the distribution of only very small annual awards of financial assistance to scholarship recipients. In order to provide more significant scholarship awards to outstanding students each and every year going forward, we are continuously seeking contributions to grow this fund and will accept any amount at any time.

Donors have come from all across the country and we invite you to participate and join us in this ongoing effort. All contributions are tax deductible and your gift in any amount will be greatly appreciated.

Chorus Endowment Fund

Dallas Symphony Chorus Endowment Fund

Several years ago, the Dallas Symphony Chorus established an endowment fund with the intention to eventually generate a revenue stream for the chorus. The normal way an endowment fund grows is by private donations, by memorial gifts or gifts specified in the last will and testament of an individual.

As the Fund grows, the Chorus Executive Committee will determine how to carry out investment policy and to distribute income. This income could be used for a variety of reasons such as adding music to our library, additional tour funds, annual operations, recordings, scholarships for voice students that are members of the Chorus and contributions to other art organizations.

Depending upon how large the endowment becomes, an endowment board may be established to determine the investment policy and to properly make all investments of fund proceeds as they become due.
